What Will You Be Remembered For?

What is your purpose? It's so important that we ask ourselves this question. That we regularly assess where we are in the dash between our birth and death. Death is inevitable. Ironically as I write this in the quiet living room, all I hear is the sound of the clock ticking. I've been evaluating my own life a lot, lately and I find I wasn't doing "bad" things with my time, but I was wasting so much of it. Sleep has honestly been my primary hobby since my teen years. Right after school, and if I wasn't asleep, I was likely binge-watching anything between The Office, Gossip Girl, etc. (remember the Netflix checklist? Yeah, most of those).
Don't get me wrong; there's nothing wrong with these shows or with NetFlix. It's just what I realize I've given a lot of my time to. I've always been the type to plan ahead and have these aspirations for my life (that are still all over the place!), and I finally asked myself, "When?". When do I live the way I've always told myself I would? When do I put action behind these great plans!? When do these ideas become more than an aspiration but an achievement?
If I calculated correctly, we have 168 hours in a week. Most of us sacrifice 40+ of those hours achieving, stressing, and striving for a business mission that's not our own. I know we need it to fund our lavish lifestyle, (but somehow many of us are still paycheck to paycheck) None the less, 128 hours left, what do we do with them? 42-56 hours sleeping, 14 on social media, 14 + watching Netflix or TV. At best we have 18 hours left, and there's no mention of the mandatory or elected additional things life requires from us. And we all to often ask, "Where did all the time go?". I recently read that the enemy usually doesn't distract us with bad things but with good ones. The context of this was different, but it still applies. Whatever your purpose, it can't be fulfilled if you never start.
Do most of us realize how much time we give to things that don't help us achieve our own end goal? I'd always stream The Office or New Girl to relax from the hectic day that I gave in exchange for money to achieve a different person(s) mission and revenue. I was tired/stressed and needed to relax! Meanwhile - what's placed on the back burner? My purpose! The aspirations in my heart to help others, the community, etc.? Now, I ask, "How long?". I know our jobs fund our lives, and provide for our families. While essential, remember they are a mean, a resource, not the end you have in mind. Many of us are in this continuous cycle, and only a few will likely make it out. Not because we don't have the creativity, insight, or talent but because we aren't intentional. Culture convinces us this is the definition of life. We work, live, retire, and we're lucky if we get a vacation. I believe we were created by The Creator who intended much more.
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. - Provers 16:9
So, I leave you with these questions to answer: What is your ambition? That thing that always tugs at your heart? Why were you created? Who can you impact? Most importantly - When will you start? Whatever your answer, my desire is that you would begin to pursue it, become intentional with your time and start with your end in mind.
Yours Truly,
Sierra Adrien
